the cost of lamps

Am I the only person who is amazed at the high price of lamps and lamp shades?

I've been looking for the perfect (read: inexpensive!) pair of lamps for one of our guest rooms.

Last week at Goodwill I found this matching pair of brass lamps for only $4 each. 

They worked perfectly and only needed a coat of high gloss white paint (Valspar from Lowe's).

I bought a matching pair of gray square shades from Goodwill earlier this year and I was waiting for the perfect pair of lamps to pair with them. I paid $1.50 each for the shades.

So for only about $8.50 each I have brand new bedside table lamps to go on the side tables Caleb built me!
